Google is reportedly preparing for another round of layoffs, with advertising, sales, and marketing teams in India expected to be impacted. According to a report by Business Standard, sources familiar with the matter indicate that the company's Hyderabad and Bengaluru offices may undergo restructuring as part of a broader global workforce reduction.
Google layoffs: Teams likely to be impacted
While Google has not officially confirmed the exact number of job cuts, reports suggest that employees in advertising, sales, and marketing roles could be among those facing layoffs. This follows Google's recent decision to cut hundreds of jobs in its Platforms and Devices division, which oversees Android, Pixel smartphones, and the Chrome browser.
Google's restructuring strategy
The layoffs are part of Google's ongoing efforts to streamline operations and reduce costs. Earlier this year, the company merged its Platforms and Devices teams, leading to voluntary exit programs and job reductions. A Google spokesperson stated that the company is focusing on becoming "more nimble and operating more effectively". As Google moves forward with its restructuring, Indian employees in affected teams may face uncertainty in the coming weeks.
Google cuts jobs across Platforms and Devices unit
Google has reportedly laid off hundreds of employees across various divisions, including teams working on Android software, Pixel devices, and the Chrome browser last week. According to The Information, which cited a person familiar with the matter, the job cuts come in the wake of voluntary buyout offers made by the company to employees in these units earlier in January. A Google spokesperson confirmed the move in a statement, emphasizing that since combining the Platforms and Devices teams last year, they’ve focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively, which included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program offered in January.
