Aly Nurmohamed, who previously held the role of Global Managing Director of Publisher Partnerships at Criteo, is acutely aware of the challenges advertisers and publishers face today due to the disconnect caused by the absence of advertising IDs and data signals.
The Birth of Nodals AI
After spending over four years as GM and COO at Permutive, Nurmohamed launched Nodals AI, a London-based startup focused on creating custom algorithm advertising solutions. The company successfully raised 2 million euros ($2.1 million) from Stride, a European VC firm, and several angel investors from the ad tech industry.
How Nodals AI Works
Nodals AI aims to replace traditional ad networks by integrating directly with publishers to create custom identity and audience signals for advertisers. Unlike typical ad exchanges, Nodals operates without a universal identity graph, focusing on first-party publisher data instead of relying on third-party technologies like cookies.
Building Direct Publisher Relationships
A significant part of Nodals' strategy includes establishing direct relationships with publishers. While advertisers are the primary clients, the company seeks to build a partner network that consists of a select few publishers rather than hundreds, ensuring quality over quantity.
Early Testing and Future Plans
Currently, Nodals is testing its platform with seven top UK-based publishers and a handful of large advertisers. There are plans to potentially integrate with third-party DSPs and SSPs in the future, but only after successfully demonstrating the effectiveness of its custom bidding algorithms based on direct publisher partnerships. Nurmohamed emphasizes that they are building their infrastructure from scratch to address the new challenges in the ad tech landscape.
