Honoring a Local Legend
Stephen Gorchov, a native of Lafayette Hill and graduate of Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, is set to be recognized for his 25 years of dedicated service in the field of athletic communications. Currently, he holds the position of senior associate director of athletics for marketing and communications at Hofstra University, where he has made a significant impact over the years.
A Remarkable Career
In his role at Hofstra, Gorchov serves as the sports contact for several teams including volleyball, men’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, and women’s lacrosse. Additionally, he acts as the spokesperson for the Department of Athletics, manages all public relations matters, and oversees the men’s golf program as the team administrator.
Rick Cole Jr., Hofstra's Vice President and Director of Athletics, praised Gorchov saying, “Congratulations to Stephen on 25 years in the field of college athletic communications. To have all 25 of those years at Hofstra is truly special and we look forward to the next 25 as well.”
From Student to Professional
Gorchov's journey began at Hofstra as a student where he excelled as the head team manager for the basketball team from 1992 to 1996 and for the volleyball team in 1996 and 1997. After completing his studies, he kickstarted his career as a marketing and ticket intern at Drexel University before returning to Hofstra as an administrative assistant to the volleyball program. He was appointed as the assistant director of athletic communications in December 1999.
Recognition and Celebration
Gorchov will be honored along with other awardees who have reached the 25-year milestone at the annual convention of College Sports Communicators in June in Orlando.
